Hal Johnson, piano
Hal begins teaching with MSS mid-May!
Born and raised in Texas, Hal Johnson brings a deep love of music and over a decade of teaching experience to every piano lesson. He started playing piano at age 11 and quickly developed a passion for exploring different styles and sounds. Hal earned his degree in Art & Performance from the University of Texas at Dallas, where he focused on jazz piano and performed with the UTD jazz ensemble. He later added an associate’s degree in audio engineering from MediaTech Institute, giving him a well-rounded understanding of both performance and production. Since 2012, Hal has been teaching piano to students of all ages and skill levels. His goal is to meet each student where they are — helping them reach their personal goals, whether that’s learning to play their favorite songs or building a strong foundation in technique and theory. Hal’s versatility allows him to teach a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, gospel, classical, and more. Outside of teaching, Hal is active in his church community, where he has led worship teams and currently serves as media director at Christian Stronghold Church in Dallas. His friendly, encouraging approach makes him a favorite among students and families alike. If you’re looking for a passionate and flexible piano teacher who truly cares about each student’s musical journey, Hal is a wonderful choice!
