Tamara Schill (Tammy) is a passionate and experienced music educator with over 25 years of teaching experience in both Arizona and Texas. She has taught piano to students of all ages and skill levels—from curious preschoolers to adults coming back to learn more—helping each individual grow in their musical understanding, technique, and love for the art. In addition to serving in local churches as choir director for both children and adults, she has also taught high school music and art history.
Tammy is known for her thoughtful, individualized approach to teaching, always seeking the best methods and materials to inspire growth and creativity in her students. She brings not only deep musical expertise, but also a genuine love for mentoring and community-building through music. At the age of five, Tammy started classical piano training in Phoenix, Arizona. She was surrounded by music from a young age. At her grandparents’ home, she remembers sitting on the floor as a child listening to her grandmother playing Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms. Tammy’s parents are both cellists who met in the Arizona State University Orchestra so she grew up listening to them play together. This early exposure developed a strong love of and appreciation for music. She witnessed how music brought people together and how it really is a universal language. Out of this rich musical heritage she gained a desire to share music with others. This started with her own four children who also share a love of music and play in orchestras, sing in choirs and individually play the piano, harp, violin, cello, and bagpipes. Along with her husband, Craig (trumpet), she also has two grandsons who bring her so much joy. Oh, and we can’t forget her feisty miniature schnauzer, George Harrison, who loves to play with anyone and everyone. At the heart of Tammy’s teaching is a strong belief that music is a gift that lasts a lifetime. It strengthens the brain, supports academic growth, nurtures creativity, and instills lifelong appreciation and joy. Tammy considers it an honor and a privilege to help develop this gift of music in each of her students. Her teaching is marked by warmth, creativity, and a deep respect for the unique musical journey of every learner. She is excited to join the team at MSS. |
