Emily McMullin
piano & early childhood
Emily Beaty McMullin has been playing the piano for over 20 years. Some of her earliest musical experiences included playing for local Richardson piano festivals, participating with the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas, and arranging tunes for herself and her two sisters to perform together. She completed her undergraduate study at Bryan College in east Tennessee, earning a bachelor’s degree in Church Music. Her interest in historical research motivated her to pursue a master’s degree in Musicology from Texas Tech University, where she focused on sacred music and popular music. Her thesis, “Subcultural Conveyances: A Study of Hymn Quotations in Rap and Heavy Metal Music,” was prepared under the advisement of Dr. Lauryn Salazar. As an instructor and registered Music Together® teacher, Emily has enjoyed a wide variety of educational roles, including choral direction, church music direction, accompaniment, private lessons, and undergraduate classroom instruction. She loves to see students develop a lifelong personal interest in music, from elementary beginners to university students and adult learners.
