Jean Haynes
piano & voice
Jean was born and raised on a farm in Colorado. She started piano lessons at age four and read music before she read words. At the age of eight she began to play the violin. As a young teen, she started voice lessons. Jean began performing with her youth church choir. In high school she was active in a violin ensemble and was a featured singer with “Rare Moment” a group modeled after “Up with “People.”
Jean attended the University of Colorado where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. She earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona with a minor in Vocal Pedagogy. Jean also worked on her Doctorate degree at the University of Minnesota. Jean attended the Interlochen Arts Academy during her eighth grade summer studying both violin and voice. During her Masters degree, she was able to attend the American Institute for Musical Studies in Graz , Austria, which led to her signing with an agent. Jean has maintained a private studio for over 30 years. She has taught Suzuki violin, piano and voice. Jean has been a professional accompanist for choirs and soloists. Musical Theatre is another of her passions and she has been a music director for over 30 productions in the U.S. and abroad. After 24 years in the classroom, Jean has recently retired and is excited to return to studio teaching. In her musical journey she has taught all ages from 3 to 83. She has traveled to far off places to share her love of music with students in Mexico City and Bangladesh. Jean has always had music in her life and she is excited to share with her students the joy and excitement that comes with making music. She hopes her students will love and enjoy music for a lifetime. Jean is married to composer, Dr. Gary Haynes. They have a daughter, Emily, who is a theatre teacher and performer in the Dallas area.
