Q: Tell us about how you first became involved in music
A: In 3rd grade, my music teacher told me that I should audition for the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas because she thought I had a good voice and would enjoy it. I auditioned and made it, and remained in the choir until I graduated from high school.

Q: Is anyone else in your family a musician?
A: Nope! But my family is full of music appreciators.

Q: Tell us more about your music education
A: I went to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and graduated in 2011. I then went to Oklahoma City University and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Vocal Music Education and a Bachelor’s in Church Music. I’m now working towards my Master’s in Sacred Music, focusing on music education, from Southern Methodist University.

Q: Growing up, did you have any influential teachers/professors who guided you towards becoming a professional musician?
A: My elementary school music teacher, Ms. Baker, my CCGD director, Ms. Nott, my high school choir director, Mrs. Stephens, my college organ professor, Dr. Plamann, and my college choir director, Dr. Ellefson.

Q: What is your personal teaching philosophy?
A: I believe that every person has the ability to be a musical person: the only thing that separates musicians from everyone else is hard work and dedication.

Q: What is your favorite music genre?
A: I like classical organ, opera, and alternative music.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a voice/piano teacher?
A: I love the personal connections that you can build with each student. I really enjoy getting to know each kid individually and learning more about them.

Q: Do you have a favorite musical memory?
A: The first time I saw a musical on Broadway was a special experience. I was in high school and we went to see Wicked, which is still one of my favorite musicals to this day.

Q: When you are not teaching, what do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I love reading and watching documentaries. I usually have at least two books in my purse at all times. I also love spending time with my family and going out to eat with them.
